Thriving Through Thanksgiving: What I’m Thankful For

The Gift of Time and Perspective

As Thanksgiving rolls around, I find myself reflecting deeply on what this holiday means to me. This past year has been a whirlwind—filled with challenges, triumphs, and moments of growth I never anticipated. Living with Glioblastoma (brain cancer) has reshaped my perspective on life, and this Thanksgiving, I have more to be grateful for than ever before. That’s why I want to talk about what it means to be thriving through Thanksgiving.

When I was diagnosed last November, I was given one year to live. Today, as I celebrate Thanksgiving, I am thriving far beyond that prediction. Every single day feels like a victory. I am thankful for the time I have been given to continue creating, loving, and building something meaningful—not only for myself but for others facing similar battles. Time is not just a measurement of minutes or days; it is a gift that many of us take for granted until we are faced with the possibility of losing it. This year, thriving through Thanksgiving means acknowledging the sacredness of each moment.

Family and Friends: My Pillars of Strength

This journey would have been impossible without the unwavering support of my husband, family, and friends. From holding my hand during treatments to celebrating the small wins, they have shown me what unconditional love truly looks like. Thriving through Thanksgiving means celebrating these bonds, these pillars that hold us upright when we feel like falling. In the darkest times, the light of those who love us is what brings us through. The gratitude I have for them is immeasurable.

We often say we’re thankful for family and friends during the holidays, but for me, that gratitude has deepened into something visceral. These people have seen me at my worst and never turned away. They have shown up—again and again—and have never let me feel alone. That is what makes this journey survivable. That is what makes me strong.

My Cancer Community: An Unexpected Family

Through my blog and cancer awareness store, I have connected with so many amazing people—fighters, survivors, caregivers, and supporters. I am endlessly thankful for this community that reminds me I am not alone in this journey. Thriving through Thanksgiving is about lifting each other up. We do not fight alone, and we do not heal alone. The shared strength and solidarity we’ve built together inspire me to keep going, to keep sharing, and to keep believing in better days ahead.

When I launched my store, I had no idea how many lives it would touch—or how many lives would touch mine. Every message, every order, every shared post reminded me that hope is contagious. I am thankful for each and every person who has supported me in any way. The Glioblastoma Foundation is a great place to find support or donate during the season of giving.

A Purpose-Driven Life

Starting my cancer awareness store wasn’t just about creating products; it was about spreading hope and making a difference. Whether it’s through a T-shirt design or a candle with a powerful message, I am grateful to have found a way to turn my fight into something positive for others. That, to me, is the essence of thriving through Thanksgiving. It is about transforming pain into purpose and sorrow into action. Our battles don’t define us—how we respond does.

The Little Things That Matter Most

Living with Glioblastoma has taught me to cherish the simple moments—sunsets, laughter, a good cup of coffee, and the sound of my favorite songs (Disney, of course). Gratitude is a daily practice, and this Thanksgiving, I am especially aware of how these little joys make life so beautiful. When I say I am thriving through Thanksgiving, I don’t mean I am free of pain or fear. I mean I am finding peace in the midst of it. That is what thriving really means.

Whether it’s watching my dog nap peacefully on the couch or feeling the warmth of a cozy blanket on a cold morning, I find meaning in the ordinary. That’s what cancer has done for me—it has magnified the magic in the mundane.

Looking Ahead with Hope

Thanksgiving is not just about reflecting on the past but looking forward with hope. I don’t know what the future holds, but I know I will continue to live each day with intention, gratitude, and purpose. The American Cancer Society has been a valuable resource for learning how to live well even in the face of illness. Hope is more than a feeling—it is a strategy for survival.

This Thanksgiving, I encourage you to take a moment to think about what you are thankful for. Life’s challenges might try to dim our light, but gratitude can always help it shine brighter. If you’re struggling to find hope this season, lean into community, lean into love, and lean into the moments that make you smile.

Happy Thanksgiving from me and my family to yours. Thank you for being part of my journey. Together, we are stronger.
